All our meat is halal (meat sourced from trusted halal suppliers). Our kitchen also offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options (Laila gluten-free basmati rice on request). We don't actively cook with nuts, but cannot guarantee against trace contamination from suppliers — please tell us about any allergies when ordering.

The race that finishes on our doorstep

The Great River Race is London's River Marathon: a 21.6-mile dash for fixed-seat boats from Millwall in east London to Ham in Richmond, under 28 bridges, with everything from Thames Watermen's cutters and skiffs to Viking longboats and fancy-dress crews. It began in 1988 with 61 boats. It now draws around 300 crews and more than 2,500 competitors from across Europe, America and Australia, racing for 37 trophies and raising money for dozens of charities along the way.

For most of London it is a passing spectacle. For Ham it is a weekend. Trailers arrive at the car park, tents go up at Thames Young Mariners, and by Saturday afternoon the riverside by Ham House is full of crews, coxes, passengers, families and dogs waiting for the flags to appear round the bend.

We have watched it from this end of the river for years, and we have fed a fair few tired crews at the end of it. Race weekend is one of our favourite dates in Richmond's calendar.

Eating around race day

Before the boats arrive

Phone your crew or family order through in the morning. Race-day afternoons are our busiest of the September weekend and a pre-booked collection slot beats a queue.

As crews finish

Collection from Ashburnham Road takes minutes, or we deliver hot to the campsite, a Ham address or a Richmond Hill flat while you are still drying off.

Race night

Dine in with us from 4pm. We are BYOB with no corkage and no service charge, which suits a crew that has just rowed 21.6 miles and wants a table for ten.

We open at 4pm every day, until 10:30pm Sunday to Thursday and 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Collection orders receive 10% off, and delivery orders over £40 get £5 off.

Where to watch the finish

Richmond Bridge

The classic finish-run view. Crews come through tired, flags flying, with the crowd two deep on the parapet. Roughly 10 minutes from our door.

Ham House riverside

The official finish. Quieter grass, room for families and picnic blankets, and the trophies handed out at the end of the afternoon.

Petersham towpath

The last mile before the finish, with fewer crowds than the bridge and a clear view of the boats passing.

Where many visiting crews camp for the weekend. Riverside Drive, TW10 7RX — inside our delivery area.

Finding us from the river

Jaflong Tandoori, 16 Ashburnham Road, Richmond TW10 7NF. We are between Richmond Hill and Ham, a few minutes from Richmond Bridge and a short hop from the Ham finish area — easy to reach on foot from Richmond town centre and simple to park near in the evening.

Jaflong Tandoori is an independent local restaurant and long-standing supporter of the event — we are not the organiser, and race entries, camping and transfers are all handled on the official website.
