The 14 regulated allergens
UK & EU food law requires every restaurant to declare 14 named allergens. Here is how each one appears — or doesn't — in our kitchen. Always tell us before ordering so a chef can confirm the safest choice for you.
Halal — trusted supply chain
Our meat and poultry are sourced from trusted suppliers providing halal-certified products. Jaflong Tandoori itself is not currently sourced from trusted halal suppliers. No pork or pork derivatives are used anywhere in the kitchen. No alcohol is used in cooking. BYOB is welcome (no corkage). Customers with specific certification, allergy or dietary requirements should speak to the team before ordering.
Nut-free cooking (with caveats)
Nothing on our menu is cooked with nuts — no peanuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, nut pastes or nut oils as ingredients, korma and sweet naan included. We took nuts off the menu as a conscious decision to keep the whole menu inclusive. We cannot guarantee against trace nuts from supplier factories, so please tell us about a nut allergy before ordering — and call us to confirm if you order online.
Cereals containing gluten
Wheat is in our naans, chapatis, samosa pastry, bhaji batter and thickens some curry bases. Barley, rye and oats are not used as ingredients but may be present in supplier facilities.
Crustaceans
King prawns and prawns feature in named seafood dishes only (e.g. Tandoori King Prawn, Prawn Jalfrezi). Prepared with dedicated utensils where possible.
Eggs
Used in some breads, biryani finishes and select desserts. Ask and we will confirm dish by dish.
Fish
Only in named fish curries and starters. We do not use fish sauce or paste in vegetable or meat curries.
Peanuts
We do not cook with peanuts. Suppliers may handle peanuts in their facilities, so trace contamination cannot be guaranteed against.
Soybeans
Soybean or rapeseed blends are used for frying. Soy sauce is not used in our curries.
Milk
Yogurt, ghee, butter, cream and paneer feature widely — in marinades, korma-style curries, naans and raita. Many dishes can be prepared dairy-free on request.
Nuts (tree nuts)
Our whole kitchen cooks nut-free — no peanuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, nut pastes, nut oils or ground nuts are used as ingredients in any dish, including korma and our sweet naan. We took nuts off the menu on purpose so nut-allergy guests get the full menu. Supplier factories still handle nuts, so trace nuts cannot be guaranteed against — always tell us about a nut allergy before ordering, and call us to confirm if you order online.
Celery
Occasionally used in stocks and select vegetable preparations. Tell us if you need it fully avoided.
Mustard
Mustard seeds and mustard oil are common tempering ingredients in South Asian cooking and appear across our menu.
Sesame seeds
Sesame appears on some breads and in specific chutneys. Ask before ordering if you need it avoided.
Sulphur dioxide & sulphites (>10 mg/kg)
May be present in dried fruits, pickles, some vinegars and prepared sauces we buy in.
Lupin
Not used as an ingredient in our kitchen.
Molluscs
Not used as an ingredient in our kitchen (no mussels, oysters, squid or similar).
How to confirm ingredients before you order
Three quick ways to check any dish with our team.
- Call us on 020 8332 1339 — the fastest way. A chef or manager will walk you through the dish.
- Email info@jaflongtandoori.online with the dish name and the allergen(s) you need to avoid.
- Tell us on arrival or at order — every order taker asks about allergies. Please repeat the request each visit (recipes and supplier batches can change).
Cross-contamination notice: our kitchen handles all 14 regulated allergens listed above. Shared pans, tandoor and prep surfaces mean we cannot guarantee any dish is completely free from a given allergen. For severe allergies, please speak to us before booking or ordering.
Nut-free kitchen
We're a naturally nut-free kitchen
Jaflong Tandoori does not cook with nuts. We took peanuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, nut pastes, nut oils and nut powders off our menu as a conscious decision, so that as many guests as possible can eat with us safely — including the nut-allergy families who tell us they can rarely eat Indian food out.
No nuts in our recipes
No peanuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, nut pastes, nut oils or ground nuts are used in our curries, tandoori dishes, sauces, rice or breads. Our korma and peshwari-style dishes are made without nuts.
A deliberate choice, not an accident
Classic Indian cooking leans on cashew and almond pastes for creamy sauces. We reformulated ours so that nut-allergy guests aren't left with two or three safe dishes on the menu.
Traces are beyond our control
Ingredients arrive from suppliers whose factories also handle nuts. That residual trace risk cannot be removed by us, so we never claim our kitchen is an allergen-free environment.
Tell us, and we'll brief the kitchen
Flag the allergy when you order and the ticket is marked, the chef uses clean pans and utensils, and the team double-checks the dish before it leaves. Ordering online? Call us on 020 8332 1339 to confirm.
What we can't control is what happens before ingredients reach us. Some spices, flours, sauces and sweets are produced or packed in factories that also handle nuts, so trace nuts are always possible and we can never give a 100% guarantee. We'd rather tell you that plainly than promise something we can't stand behind.
Please tell us about a nut allergy before you order — every single time. If you order online (Just Eat, Uber Eats, Deliveroo or our own ordering page), add it to the notes and then call us on 020 8332 1339 to confirm, because app notes don't always reach the kitchen. We'll always do our best to accommodate your dietary needs where we can, but we can't guarantee against traces.
