How to plan the perfect curry night at home in Richmond

How much to order, what travels best, collection versus delivery, and how to serve a Jaflong Tandoori takeaway like a restaurant meal.

A great curry night is won before the food arrives: the right quantities, dishes that travel well, and a plan for keeping everything hot while you serve.

We have delivered takeaway across Richmond, Ham, Kingston, Twickenham and Teddington for over 18 years. This is everything we have learned about making it feel like a restaurant meal at home.

How much to order

Allow one main per person plus one extra main per three guests. Order pilau rice for everyone, one naan shared between two, and poppadoms with chutneys to open.

For a mixed group, follow the two-by-two rule: two mild and creamy dishes (korma, tikka masala) and two medium or hot ones (rogan josh, bhuna or jalfrezi). Everyone finds a favourite.

Dishes that travel best

Thick, reduced sauces — bhuna, rogan josh, dopiaza — hold their heat and texture superbly. Creamy dishes travel well too but are best eaten within 30 minutes.

Tandoori grills arrive hottest when collected. If you are close to our Richmond kitchen, collection keeps chicken tikka and seekh kebab at their smoky best.

Collection versus delivery

We deliver across Richmond, Ham, Petersham, Kingston, Twickenham, Teddington, Whitton, Hampton and Sheen. Collection from 16 Ashburnham Road is ready in around 25–35 minutes at busy times.

Order ahead for Friday and Saturday evenings — our tandoor runs at full capacity from 18:30, so a 17:30 slot lands the food before the rush.

Serving like a restaurant

Warm your serving bowls in a low oven while the order is on its way. Decant each curry into a warm bowl, cover with foil, and serve everything together.

Finish naan under a hot grill for 60 seconds with a brush of butter, and put the chutneys in small dishes. Small touches turn a takeaway into an occasion.
