Jaflong Tandoori opened on Ashburnham Road in 2008, and in the eighteen years since, Richmond has grown up around us — and we have grown up with it. The students who ordered a Friday night bhuna back then now bring their children in for the same dish. The families on Ham Close, the crews who line the Thames for the Great River Race, the neighbours we see every year at Ham Fair and Hollyfest: they are not customers on a spreadsheet, they are the reason the kitchen has never stopped cooking.
That heritage is the brand. We are not a chain, not a dark kitchen and not a franchise — we are one family kitchen, cooking the Sylheti recipes founder Syed grew up with, for the neighbourhood that has supported us since day one. Every curry is made to order. Every spice is ground that morning. Nothing sits, nothing is rushed, and nothing leaves the kitchen we would not serve to our own family — because, in Richmond, it usually is someone's family.
